To celebrate their 100th birthday in 2012, Oreo launched a 100-day Facebook campaign called The Daily Twist where they shared a daily photo of Oreos that represented a historical or current event. Here are some of my favorites:
Oreo also made history during Super Bowl XLVII earlier this year when they posted this tweet just a few minutes into the power outage:
Oreo has done it again, this time using Vine, a newer social media platform that allows users to share six-second videos that run on a loop. The six-second limit requires users to be brief, but also creative and original, which Oreo has proven to be time and time again.
'Tis the season for scary movies. Just in time for Halloween, Oreo used their cookies to recreate scary scenes from "The Shining," "The Exorcist" and "Frankenstein."

Oreo continues to showcase their delicious cookies in ways that engage and interest social media users around the world. With their recent content on Vine, it's clear Oreo is one of those brands who will continue to search for new platforms and new ways to connect with fans. Not only is Oreo known for creating America's favorite cookie, but they are recognized for creating one of America's favorite brands to follow on social media.
I liked those pictures. It looks like Oreo wants to connect with fans. I think by adding Vine, they will be able to reach more people. Perhaps fans will share the pictures and videos, which may get more people to follow them on social media sites.
ReplyDeleteOreo definitely seems to have a good understanding of how to engage customers right. They paint themselves as a company with a sense of humor as well as a social agenda at times, which definitely helps them win points with the average person.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Noah about Oreo having a sense of humor! As a cookie company, they don't have many serious platforms to stand on, if any. This can be an advantage in a way, but also a disadvantage. They aren't forced to take sides on controversial issues, but this also causes them to have to work harder to stay in the light of the consumers. It doesn't look like they're having many problems, though! They have an excellent understanding of social media and how to best engage their customers! I'm excited to see how Oreo embraces other types of social media.
ReplyDeleteKatee, as usual, this is a great post! I love all of the pictures and the Vines are quite entertaining. I agree that Oreo will continue to be a brand that searches for fun and creative ways to keep followers and fans interested. Not to mention, every time they see one of these new photos, how often do they want to go eat some Oreos? Watching the Vines and seeing the entertaining photos makes me want to go follow Oreo on Twitter and like them on Facebook! Oreo is doing a great job of not being the boring cookie-cutter (the irony) brand that only posts about specials with the product, but rather engages their audience.
ReplyDeleteI immediately regret commenting on this blog because I now I really want to go eat some Oreo's! It is truly awesome how they are able to out do themselves on social media time and time again. I need to follow them on Vine because those videos are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen these videos before! How clever. I've seen a lot of brands try Vine, but none so successfully. It's important to remember how to be effective on a new social media outlet. It's clear that Oreo thought it through before they created their Vine account.
ReplyDeleteWhat was your favorite picture from the Daily Twist? I love the hamburger one!
